Weston Thier, the owner and founder of Fontinalis Fly Fishing, was born to be a fishing guide. From the first time his dad let him cast poppers to bluegills, at age 9 years old, fly fishing has been his one true love.

Weston grew up on a small organic farm along the South Shore of Lake Superior. He pursued a degree in music from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, after which he headed west with his dog Bleu, the now-famous 95 lb. English Setter, to fulfill his childhood dream of living in Montana.

He spent two formative years in Bozeman, working at Montana Troutfitters Fly Shop and slinging coffee for extra fishing money, until deciding to return to Wisconsin in the spring of 2015.

Upon his return, Weston found a renewed admiration for his home state, and his easy-going personality and passionate fishiness quickly helped him develop into a respected Midwest guide, assisting anglers pursue the full gamut of species available in the area.

Once musky/steelhead season is finished and ice encroaches on the rivers and lakes of Northern Wisconsin, Weston spends a portion of each winter fish bumming and practicing his Spanish south of the border, in the name of creativity and respite before buckling up for another season on the oars. In 2019, Weston became a USCG Certified Master Captain, allowing him to offer his clients expanded fishing opportunities.
